| Former pupils create euresco.org... |
We have received a lot of requests, asking us "who is behind euresco.org?". As explained below (see time line), a lot of former pupils have been implicated during the last 15 years to achieve what has now become euresco.org.
The initiative and webmastering of the site are managed by Nicolas Beffort (Woluwé, Bac 1985 FB)... Now you have a name on it!... and even some pictures if you are a Member and can access Nicolas' profile...

1992 - Beginning of a new story
In 1992, Euresco became the first European School Alumni organization to publish a printed directory of former pupils and teachers, a regular newsletter and to organize annual events in Brussels and Luxembourg. Euresco also built a strong network in more than 40 countries.
Between 1992 and 1996, Euresco published three issues of its Euresco-Book, reaching more than 8,000 former pupils and teachers worldwide. Eight issues of the newsletter (Euresco-News) were also published under the successive Presidencies of François Wathelet, Eberhard Bömcke and Eric Everard.
1994 - First Euresco-Book Directory
In 1994, Euresco published its first Euresco-Book, distributing a directory of more than 2,500 updated addresses of former pupils and teachers. This will be the first of three issues of the Euresco directory (1993-1994, 1994-1995, 1995-1996). The third (and last) issue to be published will had than 500 pages and 7,000 addresses.
1996 - Lack of institutional support
In 1996, the European Commission, that supported the launch of the organization from the beginning, could not help Euresco anymore. Unfortunately, the amount of full members was not sufficient to keep the organization up and running. Consequently, the organization became unable to publish its newsletter and its (ever growing) paper directory anymore. Euresco therefore concentrated its efforts on keeping its database up-to-date.
1997 - First website
In 1997, Nicolas Beffort, who was then Vice-President of Euresco, opened a very basic website for Euresco, in order to keep the database available for its members. Unfortunately, no funding was found to develop this website into an active online community.
2001 - End of Euresco as an international organization
By the end of 2001, Euresco was virtually bankrupt. The Extraordinary General Assembly that met on December 20, 2001 at the European School in Uccle, decided to dissolve the organization. The dissolution has been effective on December 31st, 2001, and has been published in the Belgian Official Journal (Moniteur belge) on April 11, 2002 [see pdf version of the text]. As from December 31st, 2001, Euresco disappeared officially as an international organization.
2003 - The birth of a new community: euresco.org
As founders and members of this wondeful project, a small team of former pupils led by Nicolas Beffort (Bac 85 FR Woluwé) refused to resign, and decided to give a new birth to the project. We bought the euresco.org domain-name on the internet and paid all the debts of the former-organization to start on a new basis. We also bought the Euresco database. This new project is now alive, and has been online for the first time on July 10th, 2003: euresco.org, the first European Schools Alumni Online Community.
This project has been possible with private fundings and investments, and today, euresco.org do not receive any subvention in any way... so it needs you to continue to grow...
2004 - First euresco.org event
In 2004, euresco.org was ready to celebrate its first anniversary, with an ever growing database and a first cocktail-buffet that took place in Kortenberg, just outside Brussels, on June 25th, 2004.
2006 - A New Look for euresco.org
With a new investment equivalent to 8,000 euros, euresco.org revamped its website and made a lot of new developments. New services are now available for its Members.
